Different directions for different individuals - Male Eurasian Lynx „German“ B3002 is passing by one of my cameratraps in the „wrong“ direction🐆🌳
Lucky me, 😊 he turned his head a bit towards the camera 🍀
.
Each individual has its own ways - while the male „Speuzi“ B622 walked exactly the same way as „German“ does, „Barky“ B755, walked by the opposite direction most of the time and „Shy Girl“ too walked opposite. So when a new individual takes over a territory, the scouting starts again and you have to adjust the cameratrap.
I think I have some work to do, the next weekend 😅 📸 🌳

Wide-angle shot of „Barky“ 💙 🐆 🌳

The male Eurasian Lynx „Barky“ B755 first appeared in February 2022 in my area, right after Speuzi B622 disappeared and was never seen or captured again after my last cameratrap captures on January first, 2022.
It seems that Barky is no longer the owner of this territory as the new male „German“ B3002, marks his presence strongly.
Looking forward to see him in another territory again 😊

Male Eurasian Lynx „German“ during the blue hour 💙🐆🌳

I captured this photo of him at one of my favorite spots in my area. It's been a while since I've set up a cameratrap there, as I had a theft incident at the end of 2019.
Both of my traps were stolen there. I was scared to install cameratraps ever since, although I knew, that this ridge is obviously the best place for lynxes in my area.
As it is also a hiking path, I decided to setup this trap only during mating season. But I can't wait to return to this spot for the next season and set up more cameratraps.

Check out this little cutie we spotted in KTP !
We found this juvenile little Steenbok 🦌, a small antelope, sneaking through the bushes in the Kalahari Desert.
But that doesn‘t look like a desert, right ? We were really surprised too, but after some heavy thunderstorms with a lot of rain 🌧️ the desert transformed into a lush green oasis. 🌵 🌿💚

Look who I spotted on my latest adventure in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park! 🌞

These little predators are incredibly agile and quick, making them a joy to watch as they dart through the desert. They're also very curious and will often approach humans to investigate - just like this one did with me! 😍

It's always such a privilege to see these amazing animals in their natural habitat, and I feel incredibly lucky to have captured this moment on camera. I hope this photo brings a smile to your face and reminds you of the beauty and wonder of our natural world. 🌍

The male Lynx „German“ B3002, is giving the cameratrap the stink eye 😠
I never had a Lynx in my area, that was active like him, and he is sooo cameratrap-friendly 📸 :
He is not scared at all, but somehow interested, when the camera clicks he even turn his head towards it, not like the male „Barky“ that doesn‘t care the cameratrap at all 😺

This ist the male Eurasian Lynx B3002 I named „German“.
You may wonder why ? Well, first of all, it is a first name and secondly because of his history:

He was known to have his territory around 40km from my area, around the city of Waldshut, Germany.
In 2022 he decided to leave his territory, cross the river rhine and many other human made obstacles.
He was then captured with a trailcam in april 2022 in Canton of Aargau, around 5km from my area.
In 2017, we already had a male Lynx in my area with the name B430 born in the jura mountains going to the black forest, Germany and coming back some years later.
But that would have been too easy for „German“, and his story is not finished yet.
So German went back in 2022 to his territory he had left and was seen there until december 2022.
The population of lynx in Baden-Würtemberg is small and currently consists of only 5 males.
So he decided to go on the journey again, searching for a mate and found his way to my area early february 2023 and I could last capture him in April.
As it is not clear from which population he is originally but I can only guess that it has to be switzerland, this guy crossed the river rhine at least 4-6 times already.
I am also quite surprised that he is still around, as the resident male „Barky“ B755 was around too and he is a bit more massive than „German“.
Looking forward to see which one will „keep“ the territory.

Neozoa in autumn colors - Last autumn I was searching for Tawny owl with @yannic_matt_photography
Unfortunately we weren't successful, but we came across this semiaquatic rodent.
Originally from South America they have been bred in farms all over Europe for their pelts.
Some animals fled from these farms, or were released, when the owner closed their business and started to populate swamps, rivers, streams.
As they are not very resistant against the cold weather, they can't survive strong winters, so there are only a few in Switzerland so far, but with the climate change, that could change too.

Female Lynx „Shy girl“ (B810) is finally back.

Female Lynx „Shy girl“ (B810) is finally back. She has her ways going „under the radar“ , changing her paths a lot that makes it difficult to capture her. This year she is unfortunately without offspring, as there was a replacement of the resident male in this turf.
She is „posting“ a message for the male lynx „Barky“ B755 at this rock.
It is not mating season yet, but I am happy to see that she is still around and I hope for offspring from her and Barky next year.

Earlier this year I was looking for Natterjack Toads with my buddy @_thefieldherper
This is a rather rare species in switzerland due to unstable habitats: Either they become silted up or overgrown that the animals no longer feel comfortable and migrate, or the habitats are filled in by humans. We were really excited to find such a beautiful population.
As always, this photo is captured insitu.

This kitten passed by my cameratrap on one of my main paths for wild cats while exploring this new world. It is very well camouflaged in this rocky area, that hides it from other predators.
Since I could participate in the local European Wildcat monitoring in 2018, I could capture proof of reproduction every year and I am very excited to see the that there is regular offspring in this area
